The background for Planets Cube is very expansive and features several layers of complex backstory and sidequests.

Story[edit | edit source]

Rumors have it that aliens who look like humans crashed onto the planet some years ago. Is it true? What happened? Where are they from? Why did they crash? Are there survivors? Players will discover the answers to all these questions and will have to wrestle with several other mysteries as they build up their own little world.

Intertwined with this main story is a variety of secondary storylines: smaller branching stories which feature their own additional quests, often linked to a native or a dungeon. These additional quests aren't necessary to complete the main storyline, but for the explorer interested in discovering all the secrets of Planets³ universe, these optional stories will grant them additional intel and extra loot (often better) that can’t be acquired anywhere else.

Planets[edit | edit source]

Solar system composed of cubical planets

Planets³ adventures take place in a universe entirely made of 25cm³ blocks (voxels). Each planet represents thousands of billions of blocks. The blocks can be combined in a variety of ways to build beautiful objects and landscape elements of all shapes and size.

In this completely open world, freedom is the key. With entire surroundings that can be completely modulated, destroyed and recreated as you wish, the only limit in Planets³ is your own imagination! But this freedom comes with its own set of challenges. For instance, to leave our planet and visit the universe, players must unlock their own personal spaceship, or build one themselves…

An important part of the adventure will take place in the depth of the planets, where danger is ubiquitous. Of course the player will harvest valuable resources (minerals or crystals), but mainly he will be led there by the story in order to solve mysteries and explore dungeons.

Generation[edit | edit source]

Each planet is largely randomly generated, but some aspects are implemented manually, such as the borders of the climate regions on earth-like planets, and the location of dungeons. Other manually implemented aspects include the location of Job Masters, the starting region of the player and some main quests.

Gravity[edit | edit source]

Here is how gravity works: imagine a cube and divide it into 6 pyramids with the top of each pyramid joining at the center of the cube. The gravity will be uniform in each of these pyramids and in a direction perpendicular to the base of the pyramid.

When crossing boundaries of the pyramids, the gravity vector will rotate your character (if there is enough room). The gravity system is the same whether on the surface or near the core of the planet.

As a consequence, the orbits of planets around the Sun, and of satellites around planets will be square.
